John Pope MD, MPH, ICF ACC

Dr. Pope is currently the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center (AZ) and serves as the HonorHealth network patient safety officer. He practiced pediatrics for 30 years in private practice, as a hospitalist, and most recently in a federally qualified health center. He is an advocate and fundraiser for children and is a leader for the national American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and his local chapter of the AAP.

Education/ Training

He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Carnegie-Mellon and a Medical Doctorate from Dartmouth Medical School. He completed a pediatric internship and residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and received a master’s in public health (Health Administration and Policy) from the University of Arizona.

Coaching and Life Journey

In 2021, John became a master-certified physician coach through the Physician Coaching Institute in Seattle, WA, and an International Coaching Federation (ICF) associate credentialed coach in 2023. He has been a physician coach for HonorHealth since June 2021. His philosophy of coaching focuses on self-care, finding joy and flow in work/ life, and physician leadership as a journey with a balanced and centered physician leader emerging from the coaching experience. Outside of work he enjoys outdoor activities (hiking, biking) with his husband Greg, reading, cooking, and spending time with his family.
