Physician Coaching and Continuing Medical Education (CME)

For coaches and their physician clients:

Your participation in the following activities may qualify for  CME Category 2 credit*, under the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award guidelines and under many State requirements for Continuing Medical Education:

  • Reading  articles on professional development, leadership, business strategy, management, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and communication
  • Attending Webinars and training on physician leadership, physician coaching, communication, team-work and professional development
  • Completing  online physician professional development assessments and self-study courses
  • Enrollment in an individual  Executive Coaching program (you will focus on one or more of these professional development topics: leadership, communication, teamwork, emotional intelligence, management effectiveness, business strategy,  team management, professional effectiveness, career strategy, networking,  interview skills)

An Executive Coaching program typically requires approximately 8 – 12 hours per month of professional development time including regular  one-on-one coaching sessions, plus additional self-study, reading and practice between coaching sessions.

Download a summary of Category 2 CME credit you may be eligible to claim while you are enrolled in an executive coaching program or similar physician coaching program.   Note: Tracking and reporting participation hours for Category 2 CME is the responsibility of the physician.
