Expert Overview

Overview
As a clinician-patient, practicing anaesthetist and educationalist, I am passionate about coaching doctors for wellbeing and education. My Lighthouse Coaching Philosophy is: Live your values. Harness your strengths. Reframe negatives into positives. Join me to find your lighthouse.

Client and Business Focus

I specialise in coaching doctors, at all levels of training and experience and from all specialties and backgrounds. My particular areas of expertise in coaching are leadership development, education both from the perspective of trainee and supervisor, preparing for job applications, elevating communication skills, improving fulfillment, boosting confidence and evicting imposterism feelings.

Background and Experience

I am a specialist Anaesthetist working in public practice in Newcastle NSW with areas of clinical interest including vascular angio, gynae-oncology and colorectal surgery.

I am originally from the UK and I emigrated to Australia in 2006 as a junior doctor, “just for one year”. After completing a rural relieving term in Far North Queensland I was accepted into anaesthetic training and stayed put in Australia. I completed anaesthetic training and obtained fellowship of ANZCA (Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists) in 2013.

In 2015 I completed a Post Grad Certificate in Medical Education through the University of Dundee. This provided a solid foundation in adult learning theory, contemporary assessment techniques and a module on leadership and management. As a simulation instructor I have developed skills and experience in feedback conversations and I sit on several educational committees and project groups with ANZCA.

My interest in coaching began during my 5 year tenure as an Supervisor of Training for anaesthetic trainees. Over the years I successfully coached numerous doctors through the rocky times of exam failure, personal difficulty and professional issues to eventually complete their training.

In 2020 I set up a formal independent coaching practice to better serve the needs of doctors in the education and wellbeing space.
