Expert Overview

In my work today with Fundamental Connections, I help physician executives with those skills and support them locally to become more successful as their private coach. In private coaching and small group workshops, Fundamental Connections explores the deep impact of communication between peers, managers and leaders to advance outstanding healthcare for patients.

Background and Experience:

As a former senior communication executive in the pharmaceutical industry for the top US and European companies, I managed the formal communications of drug trial results shared with government agencies like the US Federal Drug Administration, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, US Senate Committee on Finance and with leading medical journals.

In my 25 years of leadership experience in this work and earlier work directly with hospitals and group medical practices at the American Medical Association, US Public Health Services and leading teaching hospitals, five skills stood out as the most valuable for a leader’s effectiveness. These are emotional self-awareness, exemplary listening, transparently clear communication, inspirational vision and the ability to focus on the bigger picture.

Education and Credentials:

I am a physician executive coach certified by Penn State University’s Smeal School of Business and trained in other physician and business relationship techniques used by the American Balint Society, the American Association of Healthcare Communication and Daniel Goleman’s emotional intelligence thesis. I am also a member of the faculty at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.
