Dr. Susan MacLellan-Tobert is a retired, board-certified pediatric cardiologist and an experienced physician development coach who helps healthcare professionals create meaningful, sustainable change in their work and lives. She has served as a Peer Coach with VITAL WorkLife since 2022 and brings a deep understanding of the pressures, transitions, and complex relationships that shape a career in medicine.
Dr. MacLellan-Tobert earned her medical degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, and completed her pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During her clinical career in La Crosse, Wisconsin, she co-developed Gundersen Health System’s internal peer coaching program, supporting physicians and advance practice providers in strengthening well-being, professional fulfillment, communication, and career development.
She is a Professional Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation, a Master Certified Physician Development Coach™, founder of Healing Edge Coaching, and a faculty member with the Physician Coaching Institute.
Known for her warm, thoughtful, and practical approach, Sue creates a confidential space where clients can step back from the demands of daily practice, clarify what matters most, and move forward with greater confidence and intention. Her coaching interests include career transitions, leadership development, resilience, stress management, communication, conflict navigation, clinician well-being, and the development of internal coaching programs. Sue is especially passionate about helping physicians and healthcare leaders reconnect with their strengths, increase their sense of agency, and build careers and lives that feel both fulfilling and sustainable.
