Dr. Richard Pitts is an Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, Division of Occupational Medicine at the University of California, Irvine where he also serves as an advisor to the Dean of the School of Medicine assisting with faculty development. He is an assistant area medical director at Kaiser Permanente Orange County (KPOC) where he specializes administratively in difficult change management projects. In addition to being Chief of Occupational Medicine and a staff emergency physician, he has direct responsibility for over $250,000,000 annually as part of his administrative responsibilities at KPOC.

Dr. Pitts has served on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) and as President of OCMA. He has also been the President of the American Heart Association-Orange County Chapter. He is a six time gubernatorial appointee by governors of both parties. He was appointed to the state licensing board for ten years, serving as board president for six of those ten years. He also served on the California Industrial Medical Council for ten years, six of which were as the managing co-chair.
