Ann Willemsen-Dunlap is a practicing certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and Director of Interprofessional Education for Jump Simulation Center at OSF Healthcare in Peoria, IL. Jump is the largest clinical education and innovation center in the world. This unique environment brings together physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals with all levels of training and experience for the purpose of helping individual clinicians and healthcare teams work together more effectively. Jump likewise brings together clinicians, engineers, data analysts, and medical visualization specialists to pose and solve problems that will lead to improved patient outcomes at a reduced cost.

At Jump, Ann leads multiple efforts focused on system-wide interprofessional education and safety initiatives where she draws heavily on insights from her simulation experience and continued practice in the operating room. She also spearheads an active research program that utilizes EEG data from healthcare teams doing high-fidelity simulation. The purpose is to model this data and use it for identification of neurodynamic markers of teamwork to improve simulation and other educational programming for healthcare teams.

Ann completed her undergraduate degree in Des Moines, Iowa and her CRNA education at the University of Iowa. She also earned a PhD in Science Education at Iowa, where she later served as the Assistant Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program and as Co-Director of the Department of Anesthesia Simulation Center. In that capacity she also served in positions related to patient safety, and helped lead the development of a Medical Apology training program that supported patients, families, and clinicians at risk for becoming second victims of adverse events. Today she lives with her family outside of Peoria, surrounded by hills and trees that follow the Illinois River.
